Salvatore Mangione also known as Salvo was born in Leonforte in Italy in 1947. From 1956 he lives in Turin and in 1968 after a brief experience in Paris, he starts working near the artists of the Arte Povera movement of which he will become part of. His most important works of that period are photographic works and tombstone with engraved iconic and conceptual texts.

He partecipated to numerous exhibitions with the other Arte Povera’s artists, then in the end of the 70’s he completely changes his style and moves to figurative painting. The most common subject of his works are landscapes, natural enviroments, churches and minarets. He travels in all the world and he will be inspired from lands as Oman, tibet and Egypt that become the new subjects of his paitings from the 90’s on.

Even if he changed completely his style from Arte Povera to a figurative and colourful painting, Salvo has always been at the center of the attention of the international galleries and collectors. He kept painting and exhibiting till the last days in the most important european and american galleries. Salvo died in 2015 in Turin.
