Emilio Isgrò was born in Barcellona Pozzo di Gotto in Italy in 1937. He is a visual poet and a conceptual artist and his artworks consist in erasing texts, starting this technique in 1964 and becoming immediately recognized worldwide with exhibitions in galleries and museums.

In 1992 he participates to the exhibition “The Artist and the Book in XX Century Italy” at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York exhibiting artist’s book and prints. In 1994 he is featured in the exhibition “I libri d’artista italiani del Novecento” at the Guggheneim museum in Venice. He partecipated more times at the Venice Biennale (1972, 1978, 1986, 1993) and in 1977 he won the first prize at the San Paolo Biennale in Brazil.

In 2013 there is the anthologic exhibition “Emilio Isgrò. Modello Italia (2013-1964)” at the Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Moderna (GNAM) di Roma. In 2017 three of his historical artworks, one of them “Il Cristo cancellatore” (1969), are acquired and became part of the permanent collection of the Centre Pompidou in Paris.

In september 2019 was inaugurated the anthologic on the artist at the Fondazione Giorgio Cini in Venice, curated by Germano Celant. Isgro’s artworks are in the most important collections and museums in the world.
