Piero Gilardi was born in Turin on 3 august 1942. He initially belonged to the Arte Povera movement in the 60’s and with his “tappeti natura” he became internationally recognized. With the industrialization and the pollution of that historical period, Gilardi use a synthetic element like the foam to recreate the nature that the pollution destroyed.
In 1963 he has his debut in Turin with his first solo show “Macchine per il future”. Historic were the two exhibitions “Arte abitabile” with Pistoletto and Piacentino at Galleria Sperone in 1966 and at the Sonnabend gallery in Paris in 1967. From 1968 Piero Gilardi stops the artistic production to concentrate on Arte Povera, Land Art and Antiform Art. From the middle 80’s he started back the artistic production focusing on the new media languages and the technologic art forms like multimedia shows.
He is the president of the Parco d’Arte Vivente in Turin. He exhibited in Paris, Milan. New York, Madrid and Venice and he is featured in the most important Arte Povera exhibitions and in the collections of the most important international museums.
