From the end of september is available the second volume of the catalogue raisonnè of the artworks of Mimmo Rotella. The catalogue covers the period from 1962 to 1973 and was realized by German Celant with the Mimmo Rotella Institute and the Fondazione Mimmo Rotella (edited by Skira Editore).
The 60’s and the 70’s see a Mimmo Rotella at his best with the creation of the Artypos and the photo on emulsionated canvas. The decollages become less informal than the first artworks from the 50’s and start to reproduce the image from the pop culture that was growing in that period. The new icons reproduced in Rotella’s works come from the advertising and the cinema.
The works of Mimmo Rotella from the 60’s are a milestone in his artistic career and were exhibited at the famous exhibition “New realists” at the Sidney Janis Gallery in New York in 1962 and at the XXXII Venice Biennale just two years later.
